Super article about pathways and location. I would never have guessed it, but I think I find the argument about the pathways’ extreme longevity convincing. How interesting that one can make a reasonable estimate of the age of a hedgerow by counting the number of hedge species, following specified rules. Thanks for putting this together and concluding that most rural pathways are very old indeed, probably as old as the surrounding communities.
