This is a highly informative article about the Amish. I had always wondered where the name came from; now I know. The mixture of 1740’s fashions and 21st century usages is most interesting. The pictures of hook-and-eye fasteners is useful ... though I would guess that by the 21st century, buttons are actually less noticeable than these apparently larger devices. Thanks very much.
